Ed Rogers and Sam Anderson-Brown spent a productive day with representatives from the Saudi Ports Authority (MAWANI) in Riyadh, last week.
The purpose of the meeting was to review the recommendations resulting from recently completed navigation risk assessments and discuss next steps.
MAWANI manages and operates the seaports of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The Authority appointed NASH Maritime to appraise the effectiveness of the current Aids to Navigation and VTS systems at each of its nine ports.
To undertake the evaluation, NASH Maritime, a recognised specialist in quantitative risk modelling, undertook navigation risk assessments for each port with particular emphasis on reviewing the efficacy of Aids to Navigation and Vessel Traffic Services. The assessments also make recommendations in relation to all aspects of safety management within port environments.

“NASH Maritime have completed a major project here in Saudi Arabia, involving the navigational risk assessment of nine (9) major ports.
“They conducted their work in a very professional manner, with full transparency at all times.
“The final results were very comprehensive in detail, providing MAWANI with a clear vision of what is required, to enhance marine safety. It is certainly hoped that MAWANI and NASH can work together again in the near future on other similar projects.”
A technical report and related risk assessment files were provided to MAWANI to enable the port authority to periodically update the risk assessment inhouse.
