Designated Person for Perth Harbour, Scotland

Designated Person for Perth Harbour, Scotland

Perth Harbour is a municipal harbour owned by Perth and Kinross Council (PKC) and operated by CalMac Ferries Ltd (CFL), who successfully won a five year contract in 2018 to run the port and harbour on behalf of the council.

PKC and CFL are also the navigation authority for the River Tay between the City railway bridge and Balmerino, in the outer Tay.

The Port Marine Safety Code sets out a national standard for every aspect of port marine safety. A central requirement of the Code is that risk management processes are used to inform the implementation of a marine safety management system (MSMS).

It also recommends the appointment of a Designated Person to provide independent assurance that the MSMS is working effectively and is compliant with the requirements of the Code.

NASH Maritime performs the Designated Person role for Perth Harbour. Together with providing impartial advice on matters of safety, we also undertake a regular audit of the marine safety management system to confirm it remains fit for purpose.
